Can you shuck? Join the fastest oyster shuckers in the area, including Wellfleet commercial fishermen and chefs from near and far to take part in the famous Oyster Shuck Off at the 16th annual Wellfleet OysterFest.
This contest boasts fierce competition, as men and women hunker down and shuck like they never shucked before. Contestants are given 24 oysters to open as quickly as possible resulting in perfect looking oysters on the half shell.
Judges review finish times and final product. Controversial rulings have been known to fire up the crowd of thousands, as devastating time penalties are added for broken shells, massacred oysters, and blood shed from slashed fingers.
The Shuck Off will take place on the Main Stage behind Town Hall the two days of the Wellfleet OysterFest. Preliminaries are held on Saturday and the finals on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:30 pm.
The winning Shucker earns a $1,000 cash prize and qualifies to compete in the National U.S. Oyster Shucking Championship Contest in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
